My reasons for opening up Konali - Kids Art House happen through reflecting on my profession as a tattoo artist, I have to strive for permanent perfection without second chances and I found it difficult to lower the expectation of quality when trying other creative outlets like painting, pottery or wreath making etc
It then made me realise through parenting a neurodivergent child and the pressures on him to keep up to a particular standard or structure, to complete tasks that are all beautiful for schooling and development BUT in saying that, can hold resistance for fear of not doing a “good enough” job and fitting into the box.
SO, the idea was born. Can we lessen the pressure around art, bring it back to playing and seeing where it goes? Have a go and figuring it out along the way.
I thought what a nice way to be able to provide and host a space for no structured classes, where kids are able to be in an art room and have free time to go rogue be messy without the stress of parents to do the organising or cleaning. A place where there will be less judgement, less projections of perfect creating and simply have fun. A place where you can feel at home.
I will have inspiration around for kids who struggle with starting or having an idea but for the most part, there will be materials and place to use them.
What I Do & who I am
Hi, I’m Milly. I’m a wife, a mum and have two corgis (Kona & Nali) at home too.
I’m also a tattoo artist !
That has been my career for over 11 years.
As a creative person (& adhd) I’ve always been pushing with passion to explore creativity and support other people in self expression. Initially in my teenage years I wanted to be a counsellor, so I studied community services. Then through meeting my husband, I fell in love with tattooing and the lifestyle that it lead to with freedom of being self employed.
Through the years I went through some grief and harder times which led me to look into Holistic Art therapy, which I became a practitioner in 2023. This year I completed The Arts and Dementia Care via UTAS and likely will continue to study over time in different areas of Art & Health.
For this space of Konali, I do want to make it clear that I am not a childhood educator nor a therapist. I will simply be an artist and host this little art studio for kids. Promoting wellness, expression & fun.
I am a bit of a silly goose and just want to have a space for kids that’s a little less serious in performance or conforming to societal pressure. You’ll find me in the studio supporting our littles (& parents) with things to do, things to make annnnd I will also likely be painting, drawing or on the computer !
The studio will be operating around my own parenting schedule, my son will be the most important priority (of course) and also my tattooing career. I’m opening this space to provide another experience for us all but not to make me have less time with my family - that’s the goal anyway!
